Preparing for an EEG
In order to obtain the best possible results from the testing, please follow the guidelines below:
DO'S
- Wash hair the night before the test.
- Bring a complete list of all medications you take at home.
- Stay up late the night before the test and get up early. No more than 5 hours of sleep.
- FOR YOUNG CHILDREN - Bring a bottle or toy. Also keep up later than usual the night before the test and get up early. No more than 5 hours of sleep. It may be helpful to schedule test about the child's nap time, if an early morning appointment is not available.
- Take your medications before coming to your EEG test.
- Bring some shampoo with you the day of the test. A towel and wash cloth will be provided for you.
- EAT A FULL MEAL immediately prior to the test. If you are having other tests done PRIOR to the EEG, that require you NOT TO EAT, then eat immediately after that test, but before you come to have your EEG done.
DON'TS
- DON'T USE hair sprays, oils or crème rinse on your hair.
- DON'T drink or eat anything with caffeine (i.e. tea, soda, chocolate) the day of the test.
